THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS: CITY OF BONES . READ-A-LONG + GIVEAWAY. CHAPTER 10 RECAP & MY REACTION TO THE UPCOMING MOVIE

Welcome to Day 10  of The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones (*) Read-A-Long hosted by Kayla at Ramblings of a Book Junkie! I'm very excited to be a part of it.  21 days, 23 chapters and a gripping tale to read during August until the official premiere of  The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones the Movie (August 21st).

Chapter 10 Recap - Welcome to the City of Bones!

Clary is in NY Institute where, little by little,  she discovers  he truth about her mother's past and her own identity.
Hodge, the tutor of the two Lightwood siblings and Jace, reveals that he was a member of the secret group of young shadowhunters called The Circle,  to which Jocelyn, Clary's  mother, belonged too.  Jocelyn was married to Valentine Morgernstern at the time.

Revelation after revelation, Clary is extremely puzzled. She makes up her mind to discover what her mother has tried to hide from her all her life long. She will meet the Silent Brothers, as Jace suggests, and  they will read her mind. Jace and Hodge are sure all the answers are inside Clary's head.

Simon is in the Istitute too, but he is unkindly dismissed by Jace. Isabelle accompanies him to the door.

Clary is  rather confused and hasn't completely recovered from the demon's poisonous attack.  When Jace wakes her up very early the next morning,  she finds herself in bed, experiencing the strangest dream of herself dancing with Simon first then with Jace. She can't even remember how she got to bed.

Jace tells her that she fainted and that it was him who helped Hodge to carry her in there. He adds that she must get  up because Brother Jeremiah is there to talk to her.
Clary's first meeting with the Silent Brothers will not solve the enigma in her mind. She will have to go to
to the City of Bones with Jace to get to know more.
During the journey Jace will tell Clary about his shocking memories of his father's death and, once in the City of Bones,  Clary will discover that all her memories have been blocked by a spell. A spell cast by a warlock ...

Quotes from Chapter 10

Isabelle about Jace:

"He's not a liar at all. Not about important things. He'll tell you horrible truths, but he won't lie, ...That's why it's generally better not to ask him anything unless you know you can stand to hear the answer."
___________________________

Clary: It's so ... dark
Jace: You want me to hold your hand?
Clary put both her hands behind her back like a small child. "Don't talk down to me"
Jace: "Well, I could hardly talk up to you. You are too short"

____________________________

Clary: Is this when you start tearing strips off your T-shirt to bind  up my wound?
Jace: If you wanted me to rip my clothes off, you should have asked. ... It would have been a lot less painful. ... And next time you're planning to injure yourself to get my attention, just remember that a little sweet talk work wonders.

The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones becomes a movie

As I love watching British TV, period drama and going to the movies and I also love blogging about my passions, I couldn't resist the news of an upcoming movie starring Robert Sheehan, Aidan Turner, Jamie Campbell Bower, Kevin Zegers and Jonathan Rhys-Meyers all together!  I had
loved Robert as Billy in "Me and Mrs Jones" (and  then saw him in Misfits and Love/Hate), I had been enchanted by Jamie's ephebic but not effeminate beauty in Anonymous and Camelot, I had had a little crush for Aidan's Dante Gabriel Rossetti in Desperate Romantics (then he was in The Hobbit as Kili!) and for Kevin's Tray in The Jane Austen Book Club, I had had a controversial love//hate interest in Jonathan's Henry VIII (The  Tudors). Lily Collins? Well, I've started loving the idea of her being Clary later on in my journey. I hadn't been very kind to her in my review of Mirror, Mirror. But, honestly, she is incredibly good as Clary in the trailers and in the clips we've seen so far!

This is how I discovered Cassandra Clare's successful saga: only when the news of the upcoming movie spread and thanks to actors I had seen and appreciated in stuff I was fond of.
In this post you'll find a detailes account of how I came to read all the 5 books in less than a couple of weeks, and how I succeeded in ending my long lasting resistance to fantasy books and YA fiction in general. I'm now a fan of The Shadowhunters Chronicles currently reading The Clockwork Prince (book 2 in The Infernal Devices).

As for the film, I'm really excited  and I can't wait to see it. I have been following the press and read as well as watched  everything I could find online, interviews, articles, reviews and TV spots. I now call the young cast "my kids" and have my fingers and toes crossed for their premiere on August 21. They all seem so enthusiastically involved in this project  and worked hard for its success. I've liked what I've seen so far, espcially the 5-minute clip based on chapters 2-3 of the book.

(*) City of Bones is Book 1 in the series The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare. It was published in 2007 and became an international best seller. It's been followed by City of Ashes, City of Glass, City of Fallen Angels and City of Lost Souls. The sixth and last installment of this saga will be out in May 2014 with the title, City of Heavenly Fire.

until the bittersweet epilogue of book 3, Clockwork Princess.

Uh-oh.... this sounds very sad. I hope I'm wrong!

Thank you for telling us about the storyline. I like to be prepared when watching movies, just so I'm familiar with the characters and settings.

Well, junewilliams, I was writing about the end of The Infernal Devices, that is Tessa's, Will's and Jem's fates. In my opinion, it is more beautiful than sad. Let's say the perfect solution for the 3 of them. Good job, Cassie Clare!
As for The Mortal Instruments instead, we are all trepiditious for what Cassandra has written in the last book which will be out only in May 2014! What will happen to Jace, Clary, Simon, Alec and Isabelle in City of Heavenly Fire?
