1995 or 2007? Amanda Root or Sally Hawkins? Ciaràn Hinds or Rupert Penry-Jones?
Which one in each pair do you prefer?
I honestly refuse to choose 'cause I liked them all - though in a different way.
Read my post on My Jane Austen Book Club for the Jane in June event.
Oh RPJ is my Captain Wentworth all the way!!! And SH is wonderful as Anne as well.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your re-watches!!
Oh, hard choice! I also enjoy both adaptations of "Persuasion" for different reasons. (Although I think RPJ is the hottest Capt. Wentworth!:D)
ReplyDeleteI prefer the 1995 Persuasion for almost every reason. The only thing I actually liked in the 2007 version was the very end, where we see Wentworth presents Ann with her house as a wedding present. That was fitting, I thought.
ReplyDeleteI adore the newer version of Persuasion...the '95 one has never held my interest, I must confess.
ReplyDeleteRupert Penry-Jones rules! Who else could play such smouldering and enigmatic Captain Wentworth? Ciao bella. C'e' il sole qui! A.
ReplyDeleteWhen you were writing this I was preparing a Persuasion mashup, in which I address this very question. I much prefer the 1995 version, but have to give it to Rupert Perry-Jones as the better Wentworth (and I love Ciarin Hinds, so this is saying a lot). His struggle is so tangibly written on his face! A masterful performance!
ReplyDeleteI vastly prefer the 1995 retelling with Ciarin Hinds as Wentworth and Amanda Root as Anne. I love her growth throughout the film, she really seems to blossom at the end. I HATE the mad sprint at the end of the 2007 Persuasion. The movie should have been a bit longer in my opinion . . .
