WAITING FOR THE NEW EMMA - BBC PRESS PACK

BBC PRESS OFFICE has just released EMMA 2009 Press Pack with lots of details about the latest adaptation of Jane Austen' s novel (1816) which is part of Autumn 2009 Programme.

Adapted by BAFTA-winning writer Sandy Welch (Our Mutual Friend, Jane Eyre, North And South) this humorous and perceptive serial from BBC Drama Production provides a rich insight into one of Austen's most complex characters. This adaptation of Jane Austen's comic masterpiece Emma is described as fresh and witty.

  3. I can't wait for this - the pictures look as if it will be a fine version. Here's hoping it will get great ratings, as that should tempt the BBC to commission more costume dramas in the future. I really want to see a couple more series which they have promised but haven't done anything about as yet! Anyway, looks wonderful.:) Judy

I agree with you,Judy. BBC has made us used to very good productions and it's a pity that quality costume dramas must undergo the "caprices" of the market of ratings! Thanks for commenting!

  6. Oh, I'm so excited about this! I absolutely LOVE Emma and this looks like a very good version! I like Romola very much and I believe she'll be the closer one to the image I made of Emma in my mind. Her interview was very good indeed! For this I'm almost resigned that we don't have RA as Mr Knightley. I just wanted them to do more costume dramas!

  9. This is fantastic news!!! I trust the BBC to do a good job and stay true to the book - recent films/ tv progs have felt so half hearted and throw away - I hope this becomes a classic like P & P

Sandy Welch & BBC have always given us very good period drama: Our Mutual Friend, Jane Eyre and North and South, for example. Let's hope they will keep their standards high.
