About the author
Deborah Swift used to work in the theatre and at the BBC as a set and costume designer, before studying for an MA in Creative Writing in 2007. She lives in a beautiful area of Lancashire near the Lake District National Park. Her first novel The Lady’s Slipper, about conflict arising over the rare orchid of that name, was published in 2010.

Hi Maria,
thanks for highlighting my new novel, which is a bit of a departure from my other books. This is a shorter novel aimed at younger readers (and adults of course!). It runs to about 200 pages (or clicks on the kindle). I loved writing this first book told from the point of view of the deaf maidservant, Abigail. Hope some of your students enjoy it!
